Does the federal government have a role in legislating same-sex marriages?
Author's Notes/Comments:
The President of the United States and social conservative legislators are at it again. They are again introducing a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages. This would be a federal constitutional amendment and thus supercede any state laws on the issue. There is conflict in some states, as some states allow same-sex marriages and some do not. To play devil's advocate here, a constitutional amendment would resolve conflict among the state laws. But on the other hand, is this something the federal government gets to decide, especially with something as extraordinary as a constitutional amendment?

whether you support or oppose this constitutional amendment, my overriding question is this: does the president and congress have nothing else better to do???
