How much do you normally tip at a restaurant?

personally i still tip even though i don't believe in the idea. i don't mind tipping if the service is extraordinary but i just have a problem with automatic tipping no matter what the service. why should i give something extra just for them doing their job?
and what pisses me off even more is that by tipping we are subsidizing the employers. employers dont have pay the employees crap because they know that employees will make most of their wage from tips. so not only businesses make money off the product or service they offer us, but they save even more money by paying the employees as little as possible because our tips will cover it.
